Given the growing cases of Coronavirus, it is highly likely that Bali will not open up to international tourists early at any time. It will bar all non-essential travel from any foreign country until the end of 2020. It has been stated earlier that from September 11, Bali will be open to tourists, a timetable which has been scrapped as of now.

The Indonesian government is still considering whether to open Bali to international visitors in September, with the favorite haven shut down by tourists since April to curb Coronavirus spread.

Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office Putu Astawa said the Law and Human Rights Minister has not yet allowed foreign tourists to enter Indonesia. He also added that the intention to open Bali on September 11 would not go forward, as long as this regulation is not revoked.

Although the government agrees that it is a positive move to reopen the country to international tourists, the government is seeking the right timing to do so. Meanwhile, the country aims to build travel bubbles which have not yet been broken. The government of Indonesia is now exploring this possibility and is planning to create a travel bubble scheme aimed at reviving its tourism industry.

Other tourist hotspots aside from Bali, which the government is likely to suggest for the travel bubble scheme have not yet been disclosed. Smaller islands like Belitung in Bangka Belitung Islands, Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara, and Bintan in Riau Islands are also likely to be selected by the government.

Although this may sound bad news to many, there are rumors that the Indonesian government is preparing to work on laws that will allow foreigners to work from Bali while on a holiday. An official regulation authorizing workstations in Bali would probably mean fewer or no hassles with visas while remaining on the island.
